Niten trained in the City and qualified in 2006. Prior to becoming a solicitor he worked with a multinational firm of accountants and global investment bank. This financial experience coupled with a strong legal acumen led him to a career in Commercial Litigation and Dispute Resolution with a particular specialism in Insolvency.

Summary of Work

Niten is Head of the firm’s Insolvency and Restructuring department where his particular strengths lie in dealing with corporate insolvency matters from Liquidations to Administrations, as well as personal insolvency matters such as bankruptcies and directors' disqualification proceedings.

In addition, he is a Partner in the Dispute Resolution department in which he undertakes all aspects of litigious work and acts for a multitude of clients, both foreign and domestic with cases having varied from matters in the County Court to the High Court as well as the Court of Appeal.  In 2012, Niten successfully obtained a substantial Security of Costs Order against the petitioning party in a complex shareholders' dispute which went on to be a reported case handed down by the Chancery Division of the High Court of England and Wales.

More recently, Niten has extended his commercial litigation expertise to cases of civil fraud and, in particular, has significant experience in those involving properties and identity theft.  As a result, he was the lead Partner in P&P Property Limited v Owen White & Catlin, a  case of property fraud which was widely publicised after he achieved a successful outcome for his clients before the Court of Appeal in May 2018.

The landmark cases of P&P Property / Dreamvar continue to have significant implications for the legal profession even today and have led to the Law Society updating the conveyancing Code for Completion which comes into force on 1 May 2019.

Furthermore, as the firm's International Partner, Niten is a member of the League of Lawyers and the International Association of Practising Lawyers (‘IAPL’) .

Skills and Approach

Whether clients need a focused and methodical approach to urgently obtain a worldwide freezing order, or the pragmatism and understanding to help reach a settlement in a case which has been litigated for years, Niten is able to achieve successful outcomes for them.

Niten is also a former executive member of the Society of Asian Lawyers and was pivotal in organising the Society’s business and networking events, including its Annual Ball. He remains a keen promoter of diversity within the legal profession and continues to help raise significant funds to charitable causes to this day.

Hobbies and Interests

Niten enjoys meeting new people and learning about new cultures.  This makes him ideal for the role of the firm’s international partner as he travels the world promoting the firm’s legal services and building our global network.  It also allows him to pursue his passions for trying new cuisines as well as enjoying a film – which he can only do on flights nowadays as he would otherwise be enjoying time running around after his two young children at home!
