Niten Chauhan

Career

Niten trained in the City and qualified in 2006.  Prior to becoming a solicitor he worked with a multinational firm of accountants and a global investment bank.

This financial experience coupled with a strong legal acumen led him to a career in Commercial Litigation and Dispute Resolution with a particular specialism in Insolvency.  Niten is a partner in the Dispute Resolution department and head of the firm's Insolvency and Restructuring department.

Summary of Work & Key Achievements

Niten now undertakes all aspects of litigious work and his particular strengths lie in dealing with corporate insolvency matters from Liquidations to Administrations as well as personal insolvency matters such as bankruptcies and directors disqualification proceedings.

Niten has acted for a multitude of clients, both foreign and domestic with cases having varied from matters in the County Courts to the High Court as well as the Court of Appeal. 

In 2012, he successfully obtained a substantial Security of Costs Order against the petitioning party in a complex shareholders’ dispute which went on to be reported case handed down by the Chancery Division of the High Court of England and Wales.

In addition, as a member of the International Association of Practising Lawyers (‘IAPL’), Niten has travelled to many countries learning about their varied legal systems and, in turn, undertaken a wide range of work for international clients in different jurisdictions.

As a result, he is often asked to speak at seminars and most recently was invited by LAWASIA to chair the Insolvency and Restructuring session at their annual conference in Bali, Indonesia.

Skills & Approach

Whether clients need a focused and methodical approach to urgently obtain a worldwide freezing order or the pragmatism and understanding to help reach a settlement in a case which has been litigated for years, Niten has shown to possess these qualities and more in order to achieve successful outcomes for them

Niten is also a former executive member of the Society of Asian Lawyers and was pivotal in organising the Society’s business and networking events, including its Annual Ball.  As a result, he remains a keen promoter of diversity within the legal profession and continues to help raise significant funds for charitable causes to this day.
