Career  

Twice voted “Solicitor of the Year” (2011 and 2015) at the News on the Block Enfranchisement Awards, Yashmin is a “Recognised Expert” in the prestigious Legal 500 guide as well as receiving recognition in the 2014 and 2015 “Top 100 Most Influential People in the Residential Sector” property guide. Yashmin’s previous accolades have included “Young Professional of the Year” and “Regional Solicitor of the Year” as well as being short listed for 2011’s “Asian Woman of the Year” and “Women in Law” 2006.  

As well as Yashmin’s long standing role as Honorary Legal Consultant for the FPRA (the Federation of Private Resident’s Association), Yashmin has also been invited to join committees of “ALEP” (Association of Leasehold Enfranchisement Practitioners) and “ARHM” (Association of Residential Housing Managers).  

Summary of Work  

Yashmin is Head of JPC’s Property Practice Group specialising in Residential Leasehold and General Landlord and Tenant work including Collective Enfranchisement, Lease Extensions/Variations, Right to Manage claims, Appointment of Manager Applications, Right of First Refusal and granting new Leases. Yashmin has vast experience in dealing with actions before Leasehold Valuation Tribunals, Upper Tribunal, enforcing lease covenants, forfeiture claims, Section 146 notices, and dealing with service charge disputes.  

Skills and Approach  

Yashmin’s drive and leadership have provided the department with a substantial stream of new cases, achieving recognition as technically complex legal experts. Yashmin is in demand as a contributor to the legal property press providing regular editorial/articles and webinars/seminars in the complex area of leasehold law. She contributes to the Dealing with Problems and Service Charges sections on the Isurv Residential website and Lexis Nexis as well as providing guidance and content to Westlaw.  

Hobbies and Interests  

Yashmin has a passion for fast cars and motorbikes. She is a member of Sri Sathya Sai Service Organisation (SSSSO), a service organisation with a spiritual core, and until recently was Regional Service Co-ordinator for the Midlands Region, a post which she held for 6 years. Yashmin organised service activities for the vulnerable and disadvantaged members of the committee including prison visits as part of a mentoring scheme for offender rehabilitation, reading visits for the blind and soup kitchens for the homeless and community members living below the poverty line.
