On Monday 16th October, JPC Law attended the Law Society’s Commercial Litigation conference held at the Law Society on Chancery Lane.
The event was chaired by David Greene, senior partner and head of litigation and dispute resolution at Edwin Coe LLP.
The conference focused on funding and costs, with numerous experts in the field delivering helpful updates on matters such as proportionality, third party funding and budgeting developments.
Senior costs judge Master Gordon-Sakers presented a particularly interesting keynote address at the beginning of the half-day event. He provided an insight into the latest developments regarding the proposed electronic bill of costs. In summary, the requirement for parties to file and serve an electronic bill of costs will become mandatory as of April 2018, having previously been scheduled to commence in October 2017.
Although the subject of costs may not be the most exciting (!) the conference highlighted the importance of staying up to date with the latest events, particularly in light of the proposed reforms to the area of costs which are due to be implemented next year.
