Private Retirement Housing Code of Practice - England

A new Code of Practice relating to the management of residential property by landlords and others who discharge the management function was approved (subject to exceptions) on 20th April 2016 with the passing of the Approval of Code of Management Practice (Private Retirement Housing) (England) Order 2016.

The changes apply to residential properties in England only and the Code for Practice will come into force on 1 June 2016 - Order 2016 no. 505. The Code of Practice underpins ARHM’s aims and objectives in raising standards in retirement housing.

The Code of Practice for Private Retirement Housing continues to have effect for the purposes of proceedings relating to acts or omissions that are alleged to have occurred before these changes come into force.

Whilst failure to comply with a provision of any approved code does not itself render a person liable to proceedings, in any proceedings, the codes of practice shall be admissible as evidence and any provision that appears to be relevant to a question arising from those proceedings is taken into account.

ARHM will be holding an event to mark the official launch of the Code on 7th June 2016, hosted by their President Baroness Sally Greengross at Portcullis House, Westminster. The event will also celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the ARHM.
